When it comes about site uptime, then Bluehost took the 1st place. Bluehost’s uptime comes in at industry average (99.94%) over the prior twelve months.
But site owners sometime faced the site downtime problem, Bluehost claimed that they had various DDos attack towards their servers. Although its good and they have the average which is somewhere at 99.90%.
See 2017 average uptimes:
- January uptime: 99.99%
- February uptime: 99.68%
- March uptime: 99.91%
- April uptime: 99.95%

#2 Good Security Options
Bluehost provides good security options. Besides you can upgrade your security level as your need.
For example, you can prevent spam with tools like SpamAssassin, Spam Experts, and Spam Hammer. They support CloudFlare, which helps prevent pesky DDoS attacks that can bring a site down with an overwhelming amount of traffic from different sources. See, how to add CloudFlare in your website.
You can also add more security options for your website such as: hot link protection, sitelock etc.
#3 Official WordPress.org Recommended
If you go to official WordPress.org site, and under hosting category you can see Bluehost is listed at 1st position. On that page, they’ve listed 3 hosting providers, including SiteGround, Dreamhost, FlyWheel and Bluehost.

CONS(-) of Using BlueHost
#1 Page Load Speed Slow
The biggest problem of Bluehost is that their page load speed slow. Their dismal 1,275ms load times came in below the average 850ms.
Does slow page load speed matter?
Yes, it matters. Because every second counts online. Google experienced a 20% traffic drop years ago with just a half second delay. And 74% – or nearly 3/4ths of your traffic – will bounce if pages fail to load within 5 seconds.
2017 average load times:
- January speed: 1,039ms
- February speed: 1,306ms
- March speed: 1,170ms
- April speed: 1,357ms
- May speed: 1,235ms
- June speed: 1,155ms
- July speed: 1,140ms
- August speed: 1,863ms
#2 Site Migration is Costly
Most of hosting providers offer free site migration, where Bluehost charges $149.99. And they will not transfer more than 5 sites and 20 email accounts.
#3 Customer Support is not Quick as Expected
Bluehost’s customer support is good but not as fast as expected. It tooks 50 minutes to get reply from support ticket and online chat takes 2-5 minutes to get an agent. Although its understandable because they maintain over 2 million websites.
#4 QuickStart Training isn’t free
Most of web hosting company provides free Quick Start guide as they can be their long time customer. But Bluehost takes $79.99 for 45 minute expert training session.
#5 Not Really Cheap
Well, price is another major face for many customers. As the shared hosting starting price is $2.95 only , if you buy total 3 year subscription. If you buy only for 1 year, price will increase to $5.95. So it is better if you buy total 3 year plan and get more cheaper.
Another thing is that you can’t buy hosting for only 1 or 3 month.
So, the question is “Does BlueHost service worth buying“?
Ans: It all depends on you. As i reviewed here about “BlueHost Hosting Review“, so all data are collected by many tests and getting many reviews. Some uses say ” BlueHost service is very bad” and some says ” I am happy with their service”. So if you want to get bluehost services, you have to spend more money or use SiteGround. This hosting company comes with some good reports and some bad.
Do I recommend it?
Ans: NO. They need some thing to fix like loading speed and other minor issues. So if you are tight on budget, use one of my favorite host- SiteGround. You 100% love their service, support and price also cheap. 🙂
